    GIS in Good Health
03/08/2005

Earlier this year Spectus fabricator GIS PLC, of Luton in Bedfordshire, received
a prestigious award from the British Safety Council at an event officially supported
by the HSE.

The International Safety Award can
only be applied for by companies
with accident rates better than the
industry average for their sector.
Winners must have sound Safety
Policies & Plans, and a board level
commitment to Health and Safety.

In fact, GIS have received the
International Safety Award for five
years running! A remarkable feat,
one that all the Directors and staff
at GIS are immensely proud of.

Timothy Walker, Director General
of the HSE, presented the awards
at a stylish banquet at Grosvenor
House Hotel, London, attended by
1,000 winners. He commented
"By making safety an important
feature of everyday work practice,
GIS are reducing accidents and ill
health while improving productivity
and profitability.

Prime Minister Tony Blair sent a congratulatory message to all the winners in which
he highlighted all the benefits of good Health and Safety. He praised those "helping
to tackle the 39 million days lost each year to ill health and injuries."

Phil Bush, one of GIS's Directors comments "We are deeply committed to improving
our Health & Safety record year on year. I think the fact that we have won this award
five years in a row demonstrates we are being very successful. Health and Safety
issues are dealt with swiftly & effectively through our Safety Committee. This helps
to create a proactive safety ethos throughout the whole workforce, where each
department or section has a representative. Commitment on Health and Safety at
Board level certainly produces a positive team ownership of this important issue."

Phil concludes "The British Safety Council really put us through our paces, but all
the hard work was worth it! Not only do we have an excellent Health and Safety
record, low absenteeism and a very efficient factory, we also had a very enjoyable
evening out with the other winners."
